If unexpected vaginal bleeding occurs, the possible cause can also be cervical erosion. More about it in the article.

Bleeding from the vagina is always a serous concern to women, in particular if its cause is not the regular period. Some women bleed during sexual intercourse, which in the long run can spoil their pleasure to have sexual intercourse and cause fear. Men can face mental problems because they are afraid that they wounded the partner and as a result they can develop erectile dysfunction. It is therefore necessary that you see your gynaecologist if you are bleeding from the vagina. This article presents some of the potential causes for developing cervical erosion, which can be one of the causes of sudden vaginal bleeding.

Bleeding from the vagina is always a symptom of a disease. Similarly, erosion that can cause bleeding is merely a symptom of a disease. The following diseases cause the development of erosion:

  1. chlamydia
  2. cervical ectropion
  3. herpes simplex virus
  4. inflammation of the pelvic floor
  5. gonorrhoea
  6. cervical cancer
  7. allergic reaction
  8. injury

The majority of these diseases have already been discussed on our website. If bleeding is not accompanied by other symptoms, such as pains in the abdomen or pelvis, any kind of changes to your mood, and if it happens only once, then the chance of a more serious illness is slim. The possible cause of bleeding is also a trauma or injury caused by rough sexual intercourse, if the partner is ‘rather equipped’. An injury could also be caused by masturbation with rough objects, inserting a diaphragm or menstrual cup. The cervix can be very sensitive. Another cause of slight bleeding is the bleeding of the partner. Small lesions on the penis or genital warts can leave a trace of blood.

If the cause of bleeding is a laceration of the cervix, this will be confirmed by your gynaecologist. A laceration caused by bleeding is quickly treated with a short surgical procedure where the area of the laceration is frozen under local anaesthesia. At the same time, your physician will carry out the necessary tests to exclude infections and other most common causes of bleeding. In any case, vaginal bleeding rarely indicates a serious condition and you therefore do not have to worry about it too much. You will be best reassured if you see your gynaecologist.
