Latex Allergy
Latex Allergy
Condoms are made of latex, which can cause slight itching or even a fatal allergic reaction in some people.

Signs of allergy to latex condoms are vomiting, dermatitis and problems with breathing. (jlp)
The allergy to latex is actually caused by rubber tree juice manufactured for commercial use. The more times a sensitive person is exposed to it, the worse the reactions. These are dermatitis, vomiting, loss of consciousness, respiratory problems and even anaphylactic shock. Experts warn these reactions are highly dangerous and must immediately be treated. Symptoms do not only appear with the condom users but also their partners.

You should still use condoms. There exist also condoms made of plastic. (jlp)
People allergic to latex should avoid using any latex products and consult their GP on how to eliminate the symptoms. They are usually also allergic to other fruit containing the same protein as the rubber tree juice. Such fruit are for example kiwi, apple, figs and avocado.

Latex allergy is relatively uncommon.
On the other hand, there are millions and millions of people using condoms without having any allergic reaction, so one should not avoid using condoms. If, however, you have already noticed a reaction to latex condoms, replace them with plastic ones. The use of condoms is essential means of protection against sexually transmitted diseases such as
syphilis,
gonorrhea and
herpes, while it is the only means with some other diseases. Likewise, condoms are a very reliable contraceptive method used all around the world by 45 million couples.
Allergens have become an object of study when more and more medical workers who are frequently in contact with latex started to complain of allergic reactions.
